He is an environmental activist, most concerned about whales. He is the founder and the president of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS). In 1968 and in early 1970s, he joined the Canadian Coast Guard.

Watson was in the beginning of the 1970s a part of some action organization with Greenpeace. He was one of the founding members and directors of Greenpeace. In fact, he was officially the eighth founding member. Robert Hunter was the first and his lifetime membership number was 000. His wife Roberta Hunter was second and her membership number was 001. Wason`s official membership number was and continues to be 007 (
In 1977 he was banned from Greenpeace, because they did not like his violent actions.
Paul was convicted in Norwegian law in 1997 for trying to lower the ship "Nybrænna" in 1992, but the Netherland refused to extradite him. In 1977, Watson lead a Greenpeace campain against seal hunting, outside the coast of Labrador, with him he had the famous movie star Brigitte Bardot.

He formed his own organization Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, when he was banned from Greenpeace in 1977.

Sea Shepherd

Paul Watson is the leader of Sea Shepherd today and uses the title "Captain", to his role in the organization. The truth is that he does not have the license as a ship`s captain. Many people feel that Watson`s organization is a group of pirates, sailing around the earth and terrorize fishermen. The organization is disliked in countries that are catching at whales for research.
